Beauty Insider:

The best spring eyeshadow palettes of 2019

When it comes to new make-up drops, nothing tugs the hearts of us beauty lovers like a shiny-new eye palette – those multicoloured trays of make-up goodness, all housed in one neat and commuter-friendly case. Sigh. But with so much choice, how will you know which palette works best for you?  Selfridges has the answer…

The trendsetter

///

Every so often, there comes an eyeshadow palette that’s almost too good to use, and Charlotte Tilbury’s brand-new Icons palette is one of them. Bursting with new swatches we’ve never seen before, the 12 matte and shimmer shades will cause any eyeshadow lover’s heart to flutter. Bonus: the make-up artist has very kindly organised it into four hypnotic looks (day, date, diva and disco), meaning all the hard work is done for you.

The super creative

Like to experiment with different eye looks? Well, are you in for a treat with Morphe’s 39A Dare to Create Artistry Palette. With 32 highly pigmented glitters and foils – as well as seven super-sized base shades – there’s enough variety to pull off any look you dare to conjure up.

The neutral lover

The eight shades in Dior’s compact little palette (one of the squares is actually an eye primer – genius) are arranged so you can create a range of soft, natural eyes with any of the vanilla, peachy and brown hues. The matte and micro-shimmer shades are also labelled with handy suggestions like ‘sculpt’ and ‘highlight’ but we say, go rogue with any combo you like.

The eco aware

Each Viseart eye palette is made using plant-based resources and innovative technology, resulting in luxury formulas and beautiful pigments that flatter a multitude of skin tones, and look as good as they feel. Our top pick? The Libertine palette: nine velvety, jewel-toned matte and shimmering shades, each crafted from the brand’s signature buttery powder, which is triple milled for intense, long-lasting colour.

The pro

Huda Beauty’s original rose-gold palette (which caused mass hysteria, selling out in a matter of minutes when it launched in 2016) has undergone a serious upgrade. All 18 shades have been reformulated, meaning every single formula is more buttery, pigmented, and easier to apply; while the die-hard fans among you will also notice brand-new swatches (an amazing metallic pink and a sparkly neutral).

The ultimate smoky eye

We would happily reach for any Tom Ford quad when attempting to master a smoky eye, although, lately, we’re particularly partial to this one in Honeymoon (we’re suckers when it comes to a gold, copper and dark purple combo). Use the gold shade to create an even base; move onto the copper to add definition, then the dark aubergine shade to achieve a smouldering, smoky look.

The colour champion

If you think nudes are on the dull side and you'd much rather a flash of lilac, green or blue, Natasha Denona’s is the palette for you. The mattes are intense (wow, hello laguna blue) and the shimmers do not disappoint, but there are also some pretty nifty neutral shades in there too – for those days when you’re not feeling quite so fearless.

The newbie

If you’re just dipping your toes into the eyeshadow pond, Urban Decay’s iconic Naked Reloaded palette is the ideal place to start. The shade selection ranges from a deep chocolate to an array of universally flattering brown and gold-tone hues; plus each of the shades is highly pigmented and blends together seamlessly, making it a make-up newbie’s dream.
