Oxblood lips, the cat eye revamp, the new taupe for eyes (hint: shades of grey), welcome to the low-down on the new beauty trends for autumn – the trends you're actually going to want to try. Beauty editor Emma Hill reports from backstage at fashion week.

1. Healthy matte 'Well cared for nails,' is one of nail supremo Marian Newman's takes on nails for 2015. Backstage, nails were primped to look healthy and natural, as here on Karlie Kloss at Michael Kors. Manicurist Jin Soon Choi finished a barely-there nude colour with a matte top coat. Get the finish with Paul & Joe Matte Top Coat. 2. Farrah flick The 70s vibe continues with Charlies Angels style waves. Think disco diva meets Farrah Fawcett. Give the look its looser, modern edge with an off-centre parting and by tonging just the front sections, from mid lengths to ends. Hershesons Tourmaline Waving Wand will do the job brilliantly. 3. Dewy skin Facials backstage are now almost the norm. Great skincare and the lightest of bases meld to give skin the sheerest dewy look ever, as seen at Victoria Beckham, Tommy Hilfiger and Hugo Boss. Your secret weapon is Estée Lauder Double Wear All Day Glow BB. 4. Apricot flush Make-up supremo Dick Page created a sheer wash of this skin enlivening hue over cheekbones at Michael Kors. It's flattering, youthful and elegant, and this sheer, balm-y cream blush by Charlotte Tilbury will get you there in a flash. Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick in Es Vedra. 5. The lived-in knot 'We wanted the hair to be chic but feel very undone and easy,' says Orlando Pita at Diane von Furstenberg. The secret? 'Fingers and a wide-toothed comb to really break up the hair,' he says of the low-rise buns he created. Fix in place with Hershesons Pin Me Down Hair Pins. 6. Shades of grey Grey is the new neutral for eyes for autumn. Keep it soft with a sheer colour wash over lids and into the crease. Try it with Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in Slate, Saddie or Steel applied with Bobbi's Eye Shadow Brush. 7. Oxblood lip Francelle Daly for NARS set an 80s vibe at 3.1 Philip Lim with velvet matte 'oxblood' lips. For a softer finish skip liner and apply NARS Matte Lipstick in Shanghai Express, straight from the tube, blending outward with a lip brush, keeping your lip line soft. 8. Curve ball Nail art stays at the forefront for autumn, think graphic use of two colours. Here at Zero + Maria Cornejo is one of the newest twists on the on-going story: black and off white applied with a curved finish. Combine Christian Louboutin The Noirs in Khol and The Nudes in Sweet Charity nail colours. 9. Graphic lines Khol holds firm for autumn - Winehouse style at A Detacher, a graphic dash at Suno, 80s style at Marc by Marc Jacobs and at Edun, a refined, classic feline flick. For the finest line do it with Lancóme Hypnóse Star Liner Plume in Black. 10. Sparkle-eyes Swarowski diamantés under the eyes at Rodarte (glued onto silver thread), silver foil lashes at Carolina Herrera for a teardrop effect: glint and sparkle are hot. Work the look with Shu Uemura Mini Crystal False Lashes, applied to the outer corners of your eyes.
